NOTES CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE An error has been detected in the March quarter 2005 and June quarter 2005 issues of this product which led to an understatement of the live cattle export figures in Table 21. The figures understated were those for September quarter 2004. These errors have been corrected in this issue. Figures for other quarters and for other tables were not affected. LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED: Trend CATTLE (EXCLUDING CALVES) The trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered in September quarter 2005 fell by 2% to 1.9 million. CALVES The trend estimate for the number of calves slaughtered in September quarter 2005 fell by 2% to 201,000. SHEEP AND LAMBS In September quarter 2005, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered increased slightly to 3.0 million. The number of lambs slaughtered increased by 2% to 4.7 million. PIGS In September quarter 2005, the trend estimate for the number of pigs slaughtered remained steady at 1.3 million. MEAT PRODUCTION: Trend BEEF In September quarter 2005, the trend estimate for beef production fell by 2% to 514,000 tonnes. MUTTON AND LAMB In September quarter 2005, the trend estimate for mutton production increased slightly to 61,700 tonnes. The trend estimate for lamb production increased by 2% to 97,500 tonnes. TOTAL RED MEAT The trend estimate for red meat production fell slightly to 777,000 tonnes in September quarter 2005. A decrease in beef production was partly offset by an increase in lamb production. CHICKEN MEAT The trend estimate for chicken meat production in September quarter 2005 rose slightly to 193,000 tonnes. LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS: Trend WHOLE MILK INTAKE BY FACTORIES The trend estimate for whole milk intake by factories in June quarter 2005 increased by 3% to 2.6 billion litres. BROKERS AND DEALERS RECEIVALS OF TAXABLE WOOL The trend estimate for wool receivals by brokers and dealers in September quarter 2005 remained steady at 123,000 tonnes. LIVESTOCK EXPORTS: Original EXPORTS OF LIVE SHEEP Live sheep exports rose by 84% to 1.2 million in September quarter 2005. This, combined with a 14% increase in unit value (to $70.20), saw the gross value of live sheep exports increase by 110% to $82.4 million. EXPORTS OF LIVE CATTLE In September quarter 2005, live cattle exports rose by 4% to 157,000.
